James used pine for the gunwales, keel and chines, and 1/2in ply for the cross sections and stems. The coaming is 3/4in ply with a 1/4in lip. He lashed and pegged the frame and skinned it with 12oz nylon, sewn on with braided line then coated with several coats of yellow tinted polyurethane spar varnish.
